Sinte Gleska University (SGU) is a 4-year tribal college located on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The university was established in 1971 and is named after Chief Spotted Tail, also known as Sinte Gleska in the Lakota language.

SGU offers associate, bachelor, and graduate degree programs in a variety of fields, including business, education, Lakota studies, nursing, social work, and STEM fields.

The mission of SGU is to provide higher education to the members of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and surrounding communities.

Sinte Gleska University is known for its strong commitment to incorporating Lakota language and culture into its curriculum. The university offers courses in Lakota language, history, and culture, and has a department of Lakota studies that focuses on the preservation and promotion of Lakota language and culture. SGU also hosts an annual Lakota Omniciye, a cultural event that celebrates Lakota traditions and brings together members of the community.

In order to achieve it’s mission, the university partners with local schools and organizations to provide educational opportunities and resources to the community.

Sinte Gleska University also operates several programs and centers that focus on community outreach and service, including the Wicoicaga Otipi Community Healing Center and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Higher Education Grant Program.
